Commercial Concrete Flooring

Retrofitted Commercial Concrete Flooring

What kind of impression does your flooring make on customers or clients walking through your door for the first time?

If you live long enough with scuffs, stains, and threadbare patches you’ll forget they’re there, but customers are only too aware of them. Don’t let tired flooring lose you a customer. Put the pizazz back in your business by investing in a new floor. There’s plenty of options available, but for retail or commercial settings concrete flooring is hard to beat.

Why Polished Concrete Flooring?

First and foremost, polished concrete will last a lifetime. Floors in retail, offices or showrooms need to be able to withstand a heavy footfall, day after day. Concrete was made for the job. It won’t curl up at the edges, dent or wear away, in fact it will look good as new for decades. Best of all, the glossy sheen and unique patterning of commercial concrete flooring is stunning. It not only looks good; it’s a pleasure to walk on.

Can Concrete Flooring Be Retrofitted?

If you have a concrete slab that’s been covered by carpet or tiles, there’s a good chance that we can polish it to create beautiful-looking flooring. Our flooring experts will grind back the surface paste, using HTC Superfloor™ machines, to reveal the unique aggregate patterning beneath. The surface is then strengthened with a densifier and polished to a matte, satin, or high gloss polish.

Case Study – Polished Concrete Overlay for Russell & Bromley

If customers are going to be aware of retail flooring anywhere it will be in a shoe shop! DirectStone was asked to polish existing commercial concrete floors in two of Russell & Bromley’s central London stores. In both cases we found that the concrete slab was contaminated and therefore unfit for the polishing process.

The solution to this problem was to apply an architectural overlay in order to achieve a near identical texture and finish. Once the floor was repaired and decontaminated, the CTS TRU was applied, and then polished in exactly the same way as with concrete. It was then sealed to guard against stains and etching.

A Sustainable, Low Maintenance Flooring Option

Clients seeking a carbon neutral solution are delighted to be able to use an existing concrete slab to create a new floor. They’re also pleased to hear about the hands-off cleaning regime required with polished concrete. Regular sweeping and mopping with a light detergent is all that is needed to maintain the ‘just polished’ sheen.
