The word ‘concrete’ probably still brings to mind the grubby grey or dirty brown flooring that was used in garages or warehouses. But that was before polished concrete become an elegant, on-trend flooring for homes and commercial spaces. DirectStone Uses Dry Shake Colour Hardeners
So how do we achieve these beautiful tones? It’s done by power floating dry shake colour hardeners into a new concrete slab. ‘Power floating’ describes the use of a hand-held machine that produces a smooth, flat surface finish to the newly laid concrete. The dry shake colour hardener is power-trowelled at this stage, to achieve a durable and intense surface colouration.
Using a dry shake colour hardener creates beautiful colours, but it also:
- Protects against scrapes, scratches and heavy impact
- Adds texture and helps slip resistance
- Helps the flooring reflect natural light
- Enhances the floor’s texture and patterning
Bespoke Polished Concrete Floors
One of the reasons that DirectStone floor specialists love working with polished concrete is its bespoke quality. No two floors are the same; each unique concrete offers distinct patterning and natural colouration. A beautifully polished concrete floor is something of a ‘light show’ in the sun, or under spotlights. The light glances off the reflective surface creating a bright, dynamic ambiance.
