We have a busy house with kids and pets—is a polished floor going to be too high-maintenance?
It’s not high-maintenance, but it needs regular attention. Daily maintenance is just a quick sweep or a damp microfibre mop to clear away abrasive grit, which acts like sandpaper under your feet. It then needs mopping with a pH neutral cleaner.
The main thing is managing spills. Our sealers buy you time, but if red wine, lemon juice, or vinegar are left to sit on the floor, they will eventually etch the surface. Wipe up spills quickly, and it will stay flawless.
Will the underfloor heating crack the concrete if we turn it up high in the winter?
Not if the floor is engineered correctly from day one. The only way the heating will crack the floor is if you force the system online before the initial 28-day cure is complete.
I’ve read that polished concrete is maintenance-free. Is that true?"
No, there’s no flooring that can claim that. The sealant we use will naturally degrade under foot traffic. Expect to have your surface professionally topped up with a fresh penetrating sealer every 3 to 5 years to keep the stain resistance active. Neglecting this window means liquids will eventually start soaking directly into the porous slab.
Can you match the concrete color exactly to my kitchen cabinetry or a paint chart?
Concrete is a raw, organic mix of aggregates, sands, and cement, so it possesses natural tonal variations. While we can use specific pigments and dry-shake hardeners to guide the floor toward a specific grey, cream, or dark tone, it will never be a flat, solid block of plastic colour. The beauty of a bespoke pour is its unique depth and movement which will complement your interior.
