Indoor polished concrete floors achieve an ageless sophistication when combined with minimalist furniture and accessories.

Why is Polished Concrete so Sought After?

What gives polished concrete its edge over tiles or wood? Our clients tell us it’s the range of benefits it offers, alongside its stunning aesthetic appeal:

  • Concrete is a Sustainable Flooring Material. In the majority of cases, polished concrete makes use of material that already exists in your home. Unlike tiles, wood or carpeting, nothing is added, so the carbon footprint created by your flooring is zero.
  • Polished Concrete Flooring is Low Maintenance. Once your gleaming concrete flooring is installed it needs only daily sweeping, and regular mopping with a normal detergent. Any spills will need to be cleaned up immediately to prevent staining.
  • Flooring is Durable and Long-Lasting. Interior polished concrete floors will last for decades. The sealant which protects the surface of the floor will need replacing every 3-5 years, but so long as it’s maintained, your floor with continue to stun visitors for many years.
  • Indoor Polished Concrete is Unique. No two concrete floors are alike, and the design choices are immense. DirectStone offers a range of aggregate colours and sizes, flooring finishes, pigments and hues.

3 Examples of Indoor Polished Concrete Floors

The DirectStone flooring specialists create beautiful polished concrete flooring in all kinds of environments, from new builds, refurbishments, to older properties. Here’s just 3 recent examples:

1. Buckinghamshire Barn Conversion

DirectStone has been involved in a number of barn conversions, and we love the effect of ancient beams reflected in the sheen of polished concrete flooring. The Buckinghamshire barn conversion presented us with 260m² area to polish, and we recommended a ‘Bronze Finish’. This requires minimal grinding as the surface paste is left intact. Silver-grey dry shake was applied to harden the surface, and achieve a distinct colouration.

2. New Build in Bath

The elegance of polished concrete blends seamlessly with Bath’s regency aesthetic. This 85m² room is flooded with natural light, creating the perfect environment for the Bronze Finish, ground to a satin polish. We use HTC Superfloor™ grinding machines with diamond tools to grind and polish concrete flooring. In this case the colouration of the concrete is entirely natural.

3. Open Plan Living in Norwich

Our client was keen to utilise polished concrete flooring as a unifying stylistic foundation for a large open plan family living space. The concrete floor would include kitchen, hallway, diner and living area. DirectStone flooring specialists suggested a light, natural paste which would combine beautifully with spare minimalist furniture, and the light brown tones employed in each area.
